The paper for this scrapbook was made at the Center for Book Arts in Chelsea, NY. In each of the four gatherings I placed an irregular shaped paper or other element to break up the centerfolds. Hand stitched, trimmed and tied with raffia palm. The text block was bound in boards and covered with white goat leather I bought from a leather store on 27th Street, now long gone. The cover is made from a yellow cardboard stencil of the letter “M” for material, covered with text from Marcel Proust’s, In Search of Lost Time, and behind the stencil, Walker Evan’s “Penny Picture Display, Savannah”, 1936. The text and image choices were combined to present a dialog, which is also the subject of the scrapbook. The content of this book are my record of the fourth quarter of 2023. Poems, ticket stubs, film quotes and letters to the city and to people from that time.
